Safe Internet Browsing Tips

The internet is a powerful tool, but it also comes with risks like phishing, malware, and scams. Following these best practices will help keep you and your company safe online.

1. Stick to Trusted Websites

  • Use well-known, reputable sites for shopping, banking, and downloads.

  • Look for https:// and the padlock icon in the browser before entering personal information.

  • Hover over links before clicking to see the actual destination.

  • Avoid clicking links in unsolicited emails, texts, or pop-ups.

3. Keep Software Up to Date

  • Regularly update your browser, plugins, and operating system.

  • Updates often fix security holes that hackers exploit.

4. Avoid Public Wi-Fi Risks

  • Public networks are not secure, avoid entering passwords or financial data on them.

  • If you must use public Wi-Fi, always connect through a VPN.

5. Use Strong Passwords & MFA

  • Create unique, complex passwords for every account.

  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever possible.

6. Watch for Pop-Ups and Ads

  • Do not click on suspicious ads or pop-ups offering software, prizes, or security alerts.

  • Close them immediately.

7. Download Safely

  • Only download files or apps from trusted, official sources.

  • Avoid free software from unknown websites, it often contains malware.
